Broadley Orange Blossom
Sire: Gwynfaes Culhwch Dam: Broadley Ffion
Our first Welsh Cob, Maylord Princess, was purchased by Stella Levinge in 1976, when living at Broadley Farm in the Llanthony Valley. Although there had always been a pony kept on the farm, there had been no specific links to the Welsh breeds until this time. It was the difficulty of getting the few cows in calf without having to keep a bull which coincided with Stella being impressed by the Welsh Cob stallions paraded in Abergavenny Market on a Tuesday. One of these stallions was Honiton Michael ap Braint, owned by Mostyn Isaac. Obviously seeing this as a business opportunity, Mostyn explained that if a couple of mares were kept instead of the cows, it would be possible to use the stallions which were still travelling to mares at that time.
Today, we have Broadley Fascination, a grand-daughter of Princess. Fascination is a typical Hendy Brenin mare, having an abundance of bone and the big white blaze and stockings.
Swiss Valley Carol, sired by Nebo Brenin, was purchased in 1988. At 24, Carol is still producing foals. We also have a daughter and three of her grand-daughters as brood mares.
Now situated on the Welsh Borders in Herefordshire, just a few miles from Broadley Farm, Stella and daughter Lucy keep six mares and a stallion. Breeding Welsh Cobs over the past 35 years, has given us much pleasure and introduced us to many new friends.
